Case Management: An Intervention Strategy for Addressing Hoarding

Increasingly, case management models are being used by communities seeking to better address the problem of hoarding. In this presentation, Dr. Sheila Woody will describe hoarding cases that come to the attention of public agencies. This description will include information on housing type, conditions of the home and characteristics of the residents  Dr. Christiana Bratiotis will present data characterizing agency and community case management models and methods used in practice to address hoarding. Dr. Jordana Muroff will present data from a pilot study examining the prevalence of hoarding behavior and its relationship to pest management in public housing. Jesse Edsell-Vetter will present outcomes from three years of data collected through Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership’s intensive case management program for hoarding intervention. Dr. Randy Frost will provide a response to these presentations and discuss the merits of community-based hoarding interventions.
